The title soudns a lot more in depth than I’m going to go. Or willing to go.

I don’t know much about politics. I don’t follow campaigns closely, and to be honest, I really don’t follow much on presidential candidates until every team has their person.  I don’t know who Mike Huckabee is, except a governor who is also ordained. I saw this video this morning and i’s one of the best responses I’ve heard in a long time. Check it.

Scott Hodge is a pastor I came across earlier in the year. The man is honest and doing amazing things for God at his church in IL. Scott, if you’re ever in central PA, I’d love to have lunch with you. I’ll even pay.

This post from him today rocked me.

what a crazy week. it’s been tough moving from a job with one main focus (youth) to a job with three main focuses (middle school, college/young adult, and sports & rec.). but what a great week. i know that is going to continue to do great thigns through this church. my co-partner is convinced, and i agree, that this city is ready for revolution for the gospel, and it’s not far off.

it’s great being back ministering in my hometown, seeing old friends and hanging out in old hangouts. i do miss a lot from state college, though. i miss our kids…even miss some of the parents. i miss my ministry friends, especially stac and aaron. however, i don’t doubt that i’ve been lead here for a purpose.

it’s been tough setting the time aside to blog this week, being crazy busy at the office and having no internet connect at home. but i’ll be back in the swing of things soon, especially if we find a house soon.

Today is my first day at my new church – it’s been a crazy day. Most of it has been in orientation and our core staff meeting. You might not make a movie about those things, but they were important and good. I’m so pumped to begin joining with this church to reach the city of Williamsport where I grew up. More on this later in the week.

Oh, and I’m also writing this on my brand new iMac. Sweet.

First Day

It was crazy. It’s hard to believe that this process of transition and moving only really began two weeks ago. Although it has been months of praying and seeking, it became tangible just a short time ago. We’ve talked to multiple banks, looked at 10 different homes (just on Saturday!), and re-inspected a home yesterday, all while packing the Jeep full of boxes every time to drop off in my parent’s garage for a time of storage. The cook thing is, even though our heads are spinning, I can feel God’s presence in all of this, without a doubt.

We’re in an interesting situation – we don’t know exactly how things are going to happen with finding a house. In the meantime, we’re going to live in my parent’s place, which is a huge blessing. But I think of this, primarily: God can spend a time, however how long, preparing us for something. For me and Bethany in began late last year, really, when this started to frame up for the first time. But when the time comes that God says “move”, will we move or will we wait for everything to fall into place so we’re comfortable first? It’s the difference between our own need for comfort and our desire to be obedient to the God who calls us.

This whole process has me continually thinking about the story of Jonah often. I don’t want to be like Jonah and flee God because of my personal preferences or discomfort or whatever. There are consequences to that. I want to be able to have the obedience to trust that the God who has brought me this far can indeed be trusted with all that I am and do and will continue to do.

what a weekend

For those that haven’t heard, I’m in a state of transition. The past few months I’ve been seeking and wrestling with God over what His plans are for me. What’s been made clear to me is Him calling me to a new ministry position. It just got to the point where I knew that if I said no to this, I would be having a Jonah issue, and obedience is a huge thing I’ve been working on. Me and inside a fish don’t fancy well together.

So, Bethany and I are returning to Williamsport, PA – my home, and to a church I’ve had some history with growing up. The official title is Director of Young Adult and Middle School Ministries, which is awesome! It seems kind of disjunct, but they are two areas I absolutely love and have a passion for. I’m really pumped about basically getting a college/young adult program off the ground. It’s also cool that I’ll get to work with some of my best friends, too (Spence, Beth, Seth, Sarah, Matt, Anna, Adam, Nate, soon Jon…and those are just a few!).

Today is an early morning because Bethany and I are off to Williamsport to spend the day looking at houses. Crazy. So there’s a lot of newness going on. Pray for us as we look for our first home.

Tuesday night was an Outback night. Bethany and I hardly ever go to Outback because it’s more than we like to spend to go out to dinner. When you have a gift card, however, it’s a different situation. It was a worship experience:

Blooming Onion
16 oz. Prime Rib
Chocolate Thunder from Down Under

The Chocolate Thunder was quite possibly one of the the best desserts I have ever had in my life. Ever. It was a night of bliss.

So last night Bethany and I went to a certain grocery store to see if they had any boxes we could take. As I asked the question, a tall dude in a white shirt & tie appeared from nowhere behind me and embarked on a mission for boxes. When he returned, he addressed me as I left as “Mr. Fisher”. This is from a man I have never seen before in my life, and I was wearing no identifying marks. This leaves me with a few questions/thoughts:

1. was he an angel?
2. if so, why could he only find one box?
3. apparently, angels like Vitamin Water
4. angels can easily tap into a grocery store intercom
5. angels use debit cards, not credit cards – better money management

If Grocery Store Angel was in fact an angel, thanks for the box. If you’re just a dude that knows me…little weird (who are you?).

* If you know me, you know I have a hard time remembering people, especially names. If you’re reading this, supposed Grocery Store Angel/Man, it’s not that I don’t like you – I’m just still wondering how you knew my name!
