what’s the deal with magazines that you have to flip over halfway through, because they changed the printing orientation? seriously? is your magazine that boring that you’ve resorted to a hipster non-linear printing style to try and keep me interested? well, you didn’t. in fact, i skimmed the first half and threw it in the trash.

try again.

who thought of this?

LeadNow

tomorrow morning before the sun comes up, Bethany and i are heading to reading, pa for a simulcast of the LeadNow conference. i first heard about this conference in the late spring. the primary focus is ministry leaders of 20’s-30’s/young adult ministry. the cool thing about this is that it’s a three day conference in the country of texas, but they get churches around the country to host a one day simulcast of the event. we’re considering being a host site for this next fall; there are only two other churches in pa hosting this year. we’re trying to be more of a teaching church for other ministries and i think this has great potential for our region.

so we’re going tomorrow not just to attend, but to see just how the host church & leaders pull it off. i’ve been involved in planning a bunch of different events before, but nothing like this. really hoping to get some good take-aways from this tomorrow. it’ll also be great having lunch with the host church’s young adult pastor and connect with someone else on our team.

i’ll post some thoughts & notes about the conference here & on Twitter if i can get connected tomorrow!

quoting [Steven Furtick]

You can measure the value that you place on a relationship by the level of discomfort you are willing to engage to make that relationship the best it can possibly be.

dang. seriously. dang.

- went to my old middle school to watch two middle school girls’ basketball games last night; there’s nothing else like it. my favorite advice from the coach was “if you don’t know which way to run, just stand still!”

- every time i type fast, i actually spell friday as firday

- Christmas Starbucks drinks are back! the espresso truffle is ridiculously good

- today Bethany & i are boarding transportation and taking a long weekend to an undisclosed location. we haven’t gotten away in a while, so it’s nice to disappear with my bride for a bit

Friday quick hits

what can the church learn from Starbucks?

unless you live under a rock, you should know to go vote tomorrow. if you really needed more incentive, check this out.

there are some statements in that video that are a straight up call to action. i wish the Church as a whole would be as no-nonesense as this when it comes to impacting our community & world. for Starbucks “it’s bigger than coffee”. when it comes to our mission, it’s also bigger than coffee – why don’t you go do something about then?
