kicked off our ministry track this morning. i’m in a 4 part session on best practices in urban minsitry. williamsport may not be Chicago or Hotlanta, but we wrestle with so many of the social issues of a major urban area, especially. it’s also in those areas where i feel the least confortable in what i do. i’m really looking forward to spending time with the folks in this group and taking a hard look at how we reach urban America, what it looks like from the church, and specifically for our church, just how do we fix the division between the ‘city kids’ and the ‘church kids’.

worship this morning was led by the band Station2. had never heard of these guys before. they’re based here out of Columbus, OH and they’re tight. really loved they’re original music as well as their leading in worship. definitely a group to keep your eye on.

what a killer past day. Alex & Brett, authors of the book Do Hard Things, spoke last evening. really fired me up about challenging our middle school students about doing something for Christ…really helping them find the burden on their heart the God has given them (or will give them) and helping to guide their passion. i know kids right there in our ministry that would be willing to take that step and so something hard & incredible for Jesus – i can’t wait to go home and spend time with some the kids on my heart and cut them loose.

also had some off the hook music by Braddigan (the drummer of Dispatch). really ministered to my soul.

NYMC :: friday morning

and the morning is off with all the pre-registration goodness. i’ve said before, my favorite aspect of this conference by far are the connections that are made. Already in 15 minutes i’ve connected with 5 differet folks, 2 new & 3 from last year – love it. in a little bit i’m off to a 4 hour session with Doug Fields on ministry volunteers; should be tight. i’m also hoping i can find free wi-fi round here somewhere.

and you Columbus-ites know places close to the Columbus Convention Center with open wi-fi? paying $10 a day at my hotel is nothing other than super lametastic.

National Youth Ministry Conference 2009

seriously, this is one of the highlights of my year in ministry. tomorrow evening a portion of our FUSE student ministry team hits the road for Columbus, OH. yes, i’ve contemplated wearing PSU all three days just to get them OSU-ers all riled up. last year Spence & I came back with so much growth and inspiration that we couldn’t not bring more of our team this time around. there are nine of us representing both our middle & high school teams – and yes, our wives, too. love it.

anyone here heading to NYMC? let’s connect while we’re out there…

it’s a sad day for the music world…

CLEVELAND—The D chord, famed for its part in innumerable classic rock songs, including “Back in Black,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” was retired Tuesday during a ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

puppets

for a long time i’ve believed that puppet ministry is dead. this video however, might be enough to cause me to re-evaluate my stance on this vital ministry issue

after these messages

remember when Saturday morning cartoons were worth waking up for? seriously, what was better for the weekend than Garfield & Friends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tiny Toons, Doug, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, Mother Goose & Grimm, and Saved by the Bell.

what the heck happened?

apparently, magenta isn’t a color. WHAT!? next they’re going to tell me that Santa Claus doesn’t exist, that we didn’t land on the moon, and Nascar is a sport…
