Vintage Jesus // Mark Driscoll & Gerry Breshears

Crazy Love // Francis Chan

Death by Love: Letters from the Cross // Mark Driscoll & Gerry Breshears

so one of our high school girls walked into the Loft this afternoon and asked me if i ever read the Canterbury Tales. well…i was supposed to, but i didn’t really read it. i think it’s about the time i discovered spark notes online. so she busts out her copy of Canterbury Tales with my name in it from 2000. that’s awesome.

i’m glad that’s all i wrote in it. at least i think so…

the results are in: you’re favorite blogs are:

seth godin and LAist. thanks to [both] of you for commenting. ps – we need to work on that. i love gap between the two – copmletely different.

godin had a great post on his blog a few days back on reaching the right people, which got me to thinking yesterday. where are we doing this, how is it working, and where should we be doing this? Mark Batterson did this with his newest book Wild Goose Chase (I’m about halfway through – review pending). Are we asking this as a church? How about within specific ministries like youth, children, or young adults?

congrats to Stacy Sublett for winning the Wild Goose Chase book give-away!

hopefully i’ll have my full review of Wild Goose Chase up this week. i’m really enjoying so far how this book really seems a compliment to Batterson’s first book, In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day.

in one sitting

today was landmark – i finished an entire book in one sitting. i popped on over to starbucks with The 7 Practices of Effective Ministry by Andy Stanley. 3 hours, 4 pages of notes, and 2 cups of komodo dragon later i was done. this was a big deal. i don’t know if i’ve ever read a whole book at once before. i’m also now one book closer to my personal goal of 10 for the year on my list of 2008 goals.

but most importantly, it was huge for me in personal ministry ways. i’m wrestling a lot with just what does/should/can the middle school & college ministry @ first church look like. this really got me going today – i literally couldn’t read this book fast enough. it was a good morning.
