wedding season again
last year marked the slowing down of weddings we were partaking in, being that most of our friends from home & college were hitched. now the next wave is upon us, a mix of new friends in williamsport getting married + more people asking us to perform music in weddings. between now & july 3 there are four of those. it reminds me how thankful i am for my wife – here’s to 3 years on May 27!
5 things i did not expect this weekend
1) a men’s restroom that smelled delightfully of bubblegum
2) 650 high school students sold out to praising Jesus
3) our band backing up a DJ [K Roothless]
4) go-carts
5) quaker steak & lube, steak & shake, and chik=fil-a on the same block
ugh
if i’ve ever had the flu before, i don’t remember it. but i’ll remember this one. i’ve been in bed since monday morning. i need to kick this, soon.
on a related note, i’m 4lbs closer to my target weight loss goal.
after these messages
remember when Saturday morning cartoons were worth waking up for? seriously, what was better for the weekend than Garfield & Friends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tiny Toons, Doug, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, Mother Goose & Grimm, and Saved by the Bell.
what the heck happened?
Groundhog Day
does anyone else think that Groundhog Day is just utterly rediculous? i don’t know one person who thinks a groundhog is cute. in fact, i know many more people (my father included) who would rather just rid the world of them. and if years of scientific research and millions of dollars spent on weather equipment still can’t really do the job that well, why are we still basing something like whether winter continues or ends on if a groundhog sees his shadow after being pulled out of a stump by an old man in a top hat?
shout out: Ben Wygant, whose hunting skills put John Locke to shame. Ben – i have a groundhog under my porch, BTW.
friends
i have too many facebook friends. the number of them that actually are my friends? who knows. but up until this point, every person that is my ‘friend’ i have met in person, except for Mark Driscoll. today i got my first friend request from someone engaged to a person i once knew. weird. never met this girl. i think i’ll let this sit in facebook purgatory for a bit while i decide just what to do about this quandary.
your bad, microsoft
umm…oops?

my hero of the week
a few nights ago i met a young woman with two of her children at an assembly for new elementary school string players. she and her daughter were at a table i was at, looking at instruments on display. i struck up a conversation with her, as tired as she looked. in those few moments i learned that she has four children, all younger than 10, and all with special needs. on top of that she’s taking college classes when she can to get a degree in human development & family sciences. it’s that kind of moment where anything you say just feels inadequate. so i gave her a high five and told her she was my hero. i thought & prayed about her the whole hour drive home. she was my ordinary hero.
Wild Goose Chase
back in the fall my small group read a book titled In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson. his blog has also been on my daily read list for quite a while. his second book releases today, and it’s titled Wild Goose Chase. i received a copy from the publisher to review for when it hits the shelves today. i kind of bummed because it didn’t come before i left for Peru, and i haven’t gotten a chance to finish it yet since i got back on sunday night. there will be a full review forthcoming, but here’s a few things for you right now:
Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it’s like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something…
Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure.
i also have a second copy of the book to give away! all you have to do is leave a comment on this post, and a winner will be selected at the end of the week. go!
