you, and your brain, are wrong
apparently, magenta isn’t a color. WHAT!? next they’re going to tell me that Santa Claus doesn’t exist, that we didn’t land on the moon, and Nascar is a sport…
what’s your favorite blog
what’s the one blog that you would call your favorite? you read it everyday, it has the most starred/tagged/emailed posts to others, you talk about the most…
what is it?

ripped from the headlines
here’s today’s gem from FOXNews:
Apes Deserve Human Rights, Spanish Leaders Say
Spanish apes are one step closer to receiving the same rights to life and freedom humans have. (more)
now, i don’t mean to state the obvious about human rights, but…
quoting [Rev. Eugene Rivers]
In some cases, because the American public is not terribly theologically literate, they hold contradictory views because they haven’t thought deeply or been taught deeply about their faith tradition.
here’s a link to an article & video from msnbc.com regarding some thoughts on the scope of faith in American as a whole. while i’m becoming less and less tied to the results of surveys, this quote really nails down where i believe the Church as a whole needs to step it up.
how’s the Biblical literacy rate in your church?
running…well, jogging
last week, bethany and i decided it was time to do something for our health in the way of exercise. it’s just time. maybe it’s watching the Biggest Loser. maybe it’s all the different blog people that are doing weight loss challenges. who knows. all i know is that anything is more than i’m doing right now…which is nothing.
today was day #3 of jogging. we’ve been going literally around the block. doesn’t seem like much, but i can see that little bit of progress after just 3 days. i know that if this is going to succeed, it’s going to happen little by little – even though i want it to happen all at once. it’s that whole patience & perseverance thing again. makes me thing of this:
Exodus 23:29-30
I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land.
space invaders in the kitchen

this is awesome. it reminds of my mornings playing space invaders on the arcade machine at my orthodontist’s office. yes, that helped make up for the braces.
how do you take it?
it began with a questions from Carlos @ Ragamuffin Soul. so i will answer AND pass it on.
coffee. how do you take it? me:
regular coffee:
black, brewed in a press pot or a melitta. my current favorites are Tanzanian Teaberry and Mocha Java. Jamaican Blue Mountain is hands down the best I’ve ever had, but is ridiculously expensive here.
flavored coffee:
with a little sugar to bring out the flavor, but still brewed in a press pot. the only time our drip coffee make sees any action is for a big party. however, if i could find a gallon sized press pot, it would be on my counter.
espresso:
don’t make it @ home, yet i yearn for a legit espresso machine. my drink of choice is either an iced americano or a breve mocha. what’s breve mean? it uses half-and-half instead of regular milk. i believe that can be followed up with a boo-yah.

2008 goals update
back at the beginning of the year i wrote about having a list of personal goals for 2008 [part I and part II]. these took a while to come up with, and include both personal, ministry, and family goals. here’s an update:
- read at least 10 books (3 down, currently reading 2 more)
- read through the Bible (not included in the 10 above) (finishing out Numbers; i need to step up my pace on this one)
- get back down to at least 200 lbs
– build up an emergency fund (DONE!!!)
- rebuild the wall in my kitchen
- recruit at least 2 new regular committed leaders in each of my two ministry areas (1 down)
- win a poker night (Friday, March 14 – thanks Spence, Jon, Mike
i’m pumped about the emergency fund. this was a huge one that honestly i thought would be more of a struggle than it was. thankfully i have a flipping amazing wife who is also flipping amazing at our finances. now that our emergency fund is cranked out, we’re working on our debt snowball to pay down my two student loans, our jeep, and finally our house. the writing and leadership of Joe Sangle and Dave Ramsey have been key in our getting our finances on track. check them out…now!
hitting the road
About two months ago I was hoping to make a trip down to State College to spend time with some friends. Today I’m doing that again. There’s something special about having friends who always allow to to walk away from an encounter with them changed. Looking forward to talking some college ministry ideas with Aaron, methodism with Matt, and maybe even middle school with Stac; and to spend time with my friends.
Who are those people for you?
