the Bracketology of Rock
Spence had a great find:
“In honor of the college basketball tourney, a Philly radio station is doing a bracket featuring hard rock bands. Admittedly, I’m not a hard rock guy, but it came down to U2, the Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Led Zeppelin.”
I just filled out my own bracket. Karl’s Final Four?
Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, U2, and Green Day. Of course U2 takes it all.
Which bands make up your Final Four?
Categories: personal
my final four were : foo fighters, linkin park, red hot chili peppers, and incubus
red hot chili peppers won of course
U2’s toughest competition was Metallica, I think. But, Metallica fizzled out there after the Black album, so it was still a pretty easy pick.
Case: i respect your Chili Peppers. some turbulent times, but still quality nonetheless.
Smock: imo U2’s toughest competition was Led Zeppelin. Metallica’s had a good run, but i have to default to the Zep, even if only on the basis of influence to the genre of rock.
Led Zeppelin remain without equal. Every single person that I know that witnessed Zeppelin in their first two or three years of existence (dozens), staunchly maintain that no band before or since could stay on the same stage with the young hungry Zep. I was one of those and oh how I wish just one of their jaw dropping four hour 1969 shows had been professionally filmed. After Zeppelin, it’s a tough call. Since the release of Achtung Baby I have been a huge fan of U2. The RHCP Live At Slane Castle is a phenomenal DVD. I’m a big fan of Metallica’s early work, probably the most powerful band since Led Zeppelin.
